Dovley, who recently released her latest track ‘Prism,’ is now set to release her upcoming album titled Beautiful Chaos in March of 2020. With powerful vocals and a passion for electronic production, Dovley breaks down barriers the industry by dominating several aspects of it as an inspirational female. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Dovley opened up about fans, her upcoming album and more.
What can you tell us about your recent single “Prism” and its meaning or key message?
I created “Prism” hoping to capture the feeling of that certain type of love that engulfs every essence of you. You know, a love that takes you on a journey and bring out parts of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. Like that feeling, I didn’t want the song to fit any structural norms, so I made it purposely unconventional to reflect that rollercoaster of emotions. The song starts vibey, and then builds up more and more energy only to bring it back to a dreamy state.
How does the sound of that single connect to your debut album, Beautiful Chaos, which will be released next year?
The concept of the album symbolizes finding the beauty within the world when things may seem overwhelming and complex. The song itself is pretty chaotic, but within the chaos there are moments that are very delicate and vulnerable. That’s why I put it as the first song on the album…to set the stage by daring listeners to find the power in letting go of expectations.
Speaking of your upcoming album, is there anything you can tease to fans about it or what they can expect from it?
Well I can tell you guys this, the album spreads across a few genres. There’s everything from house and EDM to future bass and pop. I decided to include songs I loved and decided not to worry if they all sounded alike. That being said, there’s a few more singles we’ll be putting out before the album drops, so don’t be surprised if the next one isn’t what you guys might expect.
Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My dream collaborators would definitely be Calvin Harris, Diplo and Daft Punk. I’ve always loved their music and I really respect all of them for being able to build longevity and such a trendy industry.
Speaking of other artists, what artists or bands have influenced you thus far?
Well, growing up as a music producer, I was definitely influenced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I loved the way they layered melodies in their tracks to complement vocalists like Janet Jackson. I was also obsessed with Daft Punk’s Discovery album. As a vocalist, I idolized Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Lauryn Hill. I’m pretty sure you can hear them all in my music.
For fans that may have just discovered your music, what is one fact or major aspect of your career you would like them to know about?
I guess the main thing that I’d like people to know is that my music is 100% me. I wrote, produced and mixed this entire album and I’m the CEO behind the label putting it out. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also extremely rewarding. I want to encourage everyone out there to be proactive towards the things they want in life. I’ve learned first hand that we have the power to write our own destiny.
Can your supporters expect anything new before the end of the year?
Yes! In the next month we are gearing up to release the music video for “Prism” as well as a compilation album of remixes done by some incredible producers across the world. I’m also putting out a new single in December, so stay tuned!
