It looks like Colin Powell, who used to serve as Secretary of State, is not entirely impressed with the recent actions of the Republican Party.
The retired U.S. Army general recently decided to speak his mind and has gone as far as to say that the GOP of the Donald Trump era as a whole needs to “get a grip on itself” with regards to its stance on the President and his current actions.
He stated: “The Republican Party has got to get a grip on itself. Republican leaders and members of the Congress, both Senate and the House, are holding back because they’re terrified of what will happen to anyone of them if they speak out.”
It is no secret that Trump has been the subject of some massive attacks lately, and this seems to be just the tip of the iceberg for the President at this point, with many of his opponents actively jumping at every opportunity to make him look bad and point out his mistakes.
And according to Powell, the Republican Party has been doing a disservice to itself by defending Trump in all of this, and everyone involved in the party should step up what they are doing in this regard.
Powell added that the country’s foreign policy is “in shambles right now,” and went on to talk about Trump’s insane decision to use a Sharpie marker to extend the path of Hurricane Dorian to reach Alabama, and many public figures found ways to defend him.
He said: “I see things happening that are hard to understand.”
Powell added: “This is not the way the country is supposed to run. And Congress is one of the institutions that should be doing something about this. We’ve got to remember what the Constitution started with: ‘We the People,’ not ‘me the President.”
It does not seem like Powell is alone in those sentiments either, as many people appear to have lost some of their trust in the power of the Republican Party and its grip on its current situation.
As for Trump himself, he at least does not appear too worried over the situation.
The President has made it clear multiple times in the past that he knows how to handle himself — or at least he believes he does — and he has an active plan of action, which he has been sticking to for the most part. ‘

Whether this will work out in his favor for the upcoming 2020 election — and his current looming impeachment — is hard to tell.
