Nine people were shot -- including several children -- on Hollywood Broadwalk in Florida on Memorial Day, according to authorities.

The Hollywood Police Department said a preliminary investigation indicates multiple shots were fired after a fight between two groups erupted shortly before 7 p.m. EDT.

Police said at least one person was taken into custody, but authorities were looking for more suspects as of midnight.

The nine people who were hurt included six adults and three children, said Yanet Obarrio Sanchez, a spokesperson for Memorial Healthcare System. She added that they were all stable, with the minors taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Bettineschi said four children between the ages of 1 and 17 were wounded, along with five adults between 25 and 65. It was not immediately clear if the hospital was counting a 17-year-old as an adult.

The shooting happened on the broadwalk near a convenience store, a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream store and a Subway sandwich shop.

Hollywood MayorJosh Levy addressed the shooting on social media.

Thank you to the good samaritans, paramedics, police and emergency room doctors and nurses for their immediate response to aid the victims of today’s shooting," Levy said.

Police asked the public to avoid the area as they worked the scene.

Authorities also advised anyone who is looking for a family member or friend to visit a reunification area is set up at Johnson Street and the N Ocean bus loop.
